where the &%*! is the "topic solved" link, button whatever. I'm trying to not be a jerk and mark my post as solved but I honestly cannot find it.

Ok, but right around now, people are putting up "solved" posts. Is this feature now included? How are these showing up?

Yes it is. At the bottom of the page you'll see the topic solved button on topics you've started. It's where the moderation options would be if you were a moderator or an administrator.

Nice feature, though I was a bit taken aback by the fact that the "Solved" button looks like a tab (and thus suggests it might have some effect on the content below)

wrathican, I'm not able to reproduce your topic solved issue. I created this topic and solved it using a regular test user I have. It worked quite fine.

ooooooo i like the green highlight on the topic solved :)
Scared you in an immediate and surprising way, like "Someone jumped out of the closet and I screamed like a little girl and I'm not sure, but I think soiled myself" way, or was it more of an impending doom sort of way, like "Oh crap, my girlfriend is 2 weeks late dammit I knew I should have pulled out" way?

Sorry cobin, Just funny as . . .
