Here is a suggestion.

It would be nice to put a small icon next to the topic title for "Topic solved" on the forum index. It would be more visible and easier to access for a user that posted a topic to click that icon and mark topic as solved.

Right now, there is a lot users that don't click "Topic solved" and I think this could reduce number of those users.

Cheers.
I'm learning..... Still don't know nothing!

is ther any chance you can get the topic solved button to be more visible? I always go for the topic solved when my question has been solved and I have to say I always find it hard to find (no pun intended)

I would highly recomend making it more visible as it is far to easy to miss, otherwise a great feature on a great forum.

regards

wayne

why not put a link on the last post of every topic for the solved button.  then when the last post is made the topic solved button can be easily seen an pressed.  if it is not the last post then it can be left unchecked.  when a new post is made the link is removed from the last post and put on the latest one to be posted

The last post will always be near the page bottom where the button already is, or am I missing your point?

yes slightly actually have it in the post so it would look something like.  this is the last post that will be made on a topic then put the button over there.

I think the person who made the mod probably considers it to be a moderator action, so it's put on the moderator toolbar on the bottom left, instead of the "Reply, Notify, etc..." toolbar on the bottom right.  I mean,  you can set permissions on it to allow just the OP to mark it, anybody can mark it, or specific groups.

I must be blind, but I have searched the entire thread of a thread I started and would like to mark as solved but I can not find any button, link or otherwise that indicates the ability to mark the thread as solved.

Do you have to be at a certain level of expertise? Or does it have to be a thread you started?

I'm perplexed! :-\

Great.

Altho I do have a suggestion.. it might be anoying - unless there's another smart way to do this - but how about asking the user if the topic has been resolved, when posting the second post in said topic. I tend to forget to change my title to [RESOLVED] or whatever, so I'm sure I'll forget to click a link aswell.

Other than that, wonderful mod.

A checkbox for Topic Resolved would be nice. I think your idea is good.

Honestly, nobody seems to want to set it as 'Topic Solved'. Why? Either because they're lazy, or because they don't know how. Regardless, it's bad for business to have only a few marked as solved. It gives the impression that we get more questions than we could possibly answer, and that just isn't the case.

I think that if higher-posting members (maybe Devotees or something) should be able to mark as solved, you know? That way loyal members get a 'reward' (of sorts), and it cleans up the forum as well as lightening the administration burden.

I've admin'd a few tiny forums... and even if all of the users are following the rules, the upkeep is hard enough. I know that the phpfreaks administration could probably use all the help it can get.

Anyway, just my opinion.

P.S. My post count at this time is ~220. I just realized that it might look bad once I get the 500 posts, and I'm a devotee... and this post says that devotees should be able to do more. haha. :)
You will get help much quicker if: You use

tags when posting code, you indent your loops/conditionals, and you document your program as you write it.

Guru's+ (Guru, PFR, Mod, Admin) can all mark topics solved. The problem we run into, it can be really hard to tell if the OP thinks the topic was solved. Sure, sometimes its pretty obvious and they say "Hey thanks, that solved it!", but half the time when they have a working solution, they don't come back and post anything else or they'll present more problems.
