Groups, ranks, and hierarchy on PHP Freaks

Special groups

Administrator

In addition to the things the global moderators do, the admins are responsible for running the server, and they have root access to our servers. They are the highest authority on the forum, and are those who ultimately have the final say in any matter. Questions regarding the operation of the website, questions/help with your account, etc. should be made to an administrator.

The only person who outranks the admins and can overrule their decisions is Eric 'phpfreak' Rosebrock, the owner and founder of PHP Freaks. Complaints about staff decisions should not be made to him though.

Global Moderator

The moderators can modify, lock, and delete any post or topic. They are reponsible for enforcing the rules and may issue warnings to any member. Questions regarding a particular moderation action or warning should always be made to whomever did it. If a resolution cannot be found then you may appeal to an admin. The mods have a great deal of influence in the decision making on PHP Freaks.

PHPFreaks Recommended

The PHPFreaks Recommended (abbreviated PFR) are a group of people who have shown to be very knowledgable in one or more areas in interest of PHP Freaks. It is a kind of higher tier of the gurus, so to speak. In addition, PFRs are trusted enough to be eligible to join the development of the main site insofar they are willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Guru

The people in the guru group have shown to be knowledgable and helpful, and generally speaking, their solutions can be trusted. Gurus, like PFR, mods, and admins, have permissions to post blog posts and tutorials on the main site. Previously, these people were divided into four groups: PHP Help, OOP, Database, Design.

Staff Alumni

This group is composed of people who were former staff members on PHP Freaks. They no longer possess any authority or special privileges on PHP Freaks.

Supporter

People who are in this group have purchased a supporter subscription (USD 10/month or USD 80/year). All advertisements are hidden for these people while their subscription is active. You can purchase a subscription via your profile.

The hierarchy is (highest to lowest): Administrator, Global Moderator, PHPFreaks Recommended, Guru, everybody else.

User collectives:

In addition to the groupings mentioned above, the following official definitions are in place:

The administrationAdministrators
The staffAdministration + Global Moderators
The teamThe Staff + PHPFreaks Recommended + Guru
Regular members/usersAnyone who is not part of the team
Members/usersAnyone who has an account on PHP Freaks

It is not possible to apply for a position in the the team, staff, or administration. These people are picked by whomever is at the same level or a higher level.

Post based ranks:

There are a couple of ranks that are based on your current post count. These do not signify hierarchy, status, skill, endorsement from PHP Freaks, or anything else. They merely signify your accumulative post count (regardless of their quality).
