Stupid question:  What exactly do I do to open up my current website in Dreamweaver to edit in the ftp?  I am not doing it right and missing a step.  

Any help would be appreciated for this newbie.

From the Menu choose Site > Manage Sites >Highlight the site from the list > Edit > from the left column choose Remote Info

Like most other applications it has one. Press F1. Its a universally and internationally recognised hotkey for getting a manual to most applications. Failing that you could click the help link in the application header. You got some way to go.
