Writing one query that retrieves from different tables?

Hi, I'm trying to write a query that retrieves the comments from one table where "touser=$username" and retrieve statuses from another table where byuser=$username, and I want to sort it all by date posted.

 

How would I go about doing that?

 

I'm used to writing normal single table queries, but retrieving from multiple tables is new to me.
