<?php

  // Get the search variable from URL

  $var = $_GET['search'];
  $searchtype = $_GET['searchtype'];
  $isbn = "ISBN";
  $school = "School";
  $title = "Title";
  $subject = "Subject";

  $trimmed = trim($var); //trim whitespace from the stored variable

// rows to return
$limit=10;

// check for an empty string and display a message.
if ($trimmed == "")
  {
  echo "<p>Please enter a search...</p>";
  exit;
  }

// check for a search parameter
if (!isset($var))
  {
  echo "<p>We dont seem to have a search parameter!</p>";
  exit;
  }

//connect to your database
$connect = mysql_connect("db","user","pass") or die("Not connected");

//specify database
mysql_select_db("user") or die("could not log in");

if ($searchtype == ($title))

{

	// Build SQL Query
	$query = "select * from boox where name like \"%$trimmed%\"

Hmm, okay - I find your code rather unpractical..

I got this on my website to, I have a 'searchForm.php' file, which is basically the form used.

This form is submited to:

'search.php'

This will then place it in a get variable (although I believe you can somehow do that with javascript to..

Which then redirects you to serachResults.php

And here all the results are echo'ed..

If you want to check out my code, send me a message with your email or something similar, and I can send you the few files over.
