Hi guys, I have tried a few different way to add an if else to the below code, none of which were successfull. At the moment when the database is down it echo's connection failed. If the connection is successfull i would like it to echo 'database ok' would anyone know How to do this?

Thanks.

<?php
$hostname = 'localhost';
$username = '';
$password = '';
$database = '';
try {
$dbh = new PDO("mysql:host=$hostname;dbname=$database", $username, $password);
}
catch(PDOException $e)
{
echo 'Connection failed';
}
error_reporting(0);
?>

figured it out, it turned out to be very very simple.

<?php
$hostname = 'localhost';
$username = '';
$password = '';
$database = '';
try {
$dbh = new PDO("mysql:host=$hostname;dbname=$database", $username, $password);
echo 'database ok';

}
catch(PDOException $e)
{
echo 'Connection failed';
}
error_reporting(0);
?>
