The world’s largest PHP conference will showcase the state-of-the-art in developing,
operating, and managing commercial PHP applications

Cupertino, Calif.  – July 8, 2008 – Zend Technologies, The PHP Company, announced today that registration is open for the fourth annual Zend/PHP Conference and Expo, the world’s largest gathering of the PHP community. Leading PHP experts, professional PHP developers, and business managers will convene September 15 - 18 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.  The theme of this year’s conference is “High Impact PHP” and sessions will explore the many ways that PHP is used to deliver breakthrough design, functionality, performance, and scalability in new web applications, resulting in real business advantage for their users.

Registration and conference details are available at http://www.zendcon.com

“It is remarkable how fast open source web technologies are maturing and being adopted in the enterprise.  Companies large and small are switching from their legacy application infrastructure to the web and are increasingly choosing PHP as a key ingredient of that new architecture,” said Mark de Visser, chief marketing officer at Zend.  “The Zend/PHP Conference will be the ideal meeting place to find out more about this trend.  It will be a unique gathering of technology and business practitioners sharing the state-of-the-art on PHP-related technologies and best practices like test driven development, continuous integration, and scalable deployment using PHP application servers.”

The conference will include four days of in-depth sessions, tutorials, and case studies designed to benefit architects, developers, system administrators, and business managers at all levels of experience with PHP.  Attendees will learn from PHP luminaries like Marcus Börger, Sebastian Bergmann, Chris Shiflett, Jay Pipes, and many others. Among the companies presenting best practices from their PHP deployments are Bell Helicopter, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Telekom, IBM, Sogeti, and Toyota. They will share details of new innovations for creating, operating, and managing applications that leverage the speed, scalability, and simplicity of PHP.

On September 16, a special track at the conference will be dedicated to the use of PHP for application modernization and consolidation on the IBM Power System i Platform. Speakers for that track include System i thought leaders like Jon Paris, Larry Bolhuis, and Patrick Botz. Additionally, IBM’s Erwin Earley will discuss System i use of open-source PHP & MySQL and Zend’s Mike Pavlak will present customer case studies on PHP products and services for System i.  The strong interest for this track is a reflection of the broad adoption of PHP by the System i market.

Specific topics important to both PHP developers and technology managers include:
  • Maximizing scalability and performance of your web applications
  • PHP testing strategies
  • Creating rich internet applications
  • Building secure web applications
  • Maximizing the business impact of your PHP applications

Attendees to ZendCon 2008 can choose from a total of 60 scheduled sessions, up more than 25% from last year’s conference. ZendCon 2008 will also feature an “UnConference” where the presenters and attendees can schedule and deliver additional sessions. UnConference sessions enable conference participants to get together and exchange innovative ideas and experiences in an impromptu and informal setting.
